I surprisingly really enjoyed this movie. Frankly, fifteen minutes into the movie, it occurred in my head the presumption that this movie was going to be rather dreary judging from the early segment of the film–but I was wrong to judge! I really started to dig the film starting from the part where the scientists and troops ventured to the Skull Island to conduct their research, ad that’s where the plot gets interesting.
The dialogue was especially well-written, lighthearted in a lot of ways and not too heavy for the consumption. Also, the plot was interesting. I’d not anticipated for Kong to be the protagonist, but rather vice versa. The cinematography is also well assembled, the sounds and visual effects adding up to the excitement. The leads are also very well decided; Tom Hiddleston putting forth a magnificent performance yet another time.
Although, I think I’d like to see more of Skull Island’s inhabitants than just Kong and his competitor. I’d like to be given a broader introduction to the wildlife. Regardless, even without insight of that extent, it remained an enjoyable film.
Another thing that I disagree upon though, is the brutal and bloody violence. I’m not a fervent fan of violent thrillers and one reason for that is the fact that it encompasses appalling scenes slashed with blood and horror. Considering that this movie is not labelled ‘adults-only’, I feel like it’s only proper that it cuts down on the emphasis of violence. One violent part that glows in my memories like a blinding gem is the one where Tom Hiddleston’s character in the film, practically slaughtered a couple of people in the bar in mere seconds. It’s quite understandable that those people whom he slaughtered were presumably of antagonistic traits, and he as the protagonist a.k.a. supposed hero oughts to defend himself from them; but nevertheless, the way by which he murdered them simply gave away the wrong impression. It radiated the impression that violence and knives are cool when that really isn’t the case and never will be.
Regardless, this was a decent movie in overall and you should definitely check it out when you can, it won’t disappoint!
